The full programme of the 9th edition of the European Beer and Health Symposium, to be held on the 24th of September 2019 in Brussels, at the Académie des Sciences, is now complete!

You can discover it here.

Dr. Thomas Thurnell-Read will open the Symposium by delivering a Key Note on beer, pubs, sociality and society. This will lead the audience into the first session of the Symposium focused on the place on (non-alcoholic) beer in daily life in which Dr. Patrycia Kupnicka, Dr. Guido Camps and Prof. Alexander Jäger will report on what science says on a broad range of topics such as nutrients, minerals and polyphenols in non-alcoholic and low-alcoholic beer, beer: gender and the stomach as well as alcohol-free beer and sport.

The second session will deal with the health effects of moderate beer consumption with Dr Simona Costanzo and Dr Henk Hendriks sharing the latest state of play of science on respectively moderate alcohol consumption and lower total mortality risk as well as cancer risk and alcohol consumption.

During lunch time, scientists selected through the Call for Posters will present to attendees their posters. The winner of this competition will then have the opportunity to present his/her posters to the audience on the stage of the Symposium and will be followed by Dr Alex Berezow who will offer an insightful presentation on “Beer, alcohol and health in perspective”.

The third session of the day will deep-dive into beer consumption, women and health. Dr. Rosa M. Lamuela-Raventós will focus her presentation on moderate beer consumption and the potential effects on osteoporosis whilst Dr Taulent Muka will centre his presentation on alcohol consumption and the risk of cardiovascular disease, mortality and later onset of menopause in women.

The Symposium will then conclude with a panel discussion moderated by Dr Alex Berezow.
